DIY Plantable Paper Wedding Favors

It's been a busy couple of weeks over here in NC!

A good friend is getting married in a few months, and recently a few of us got together to work on crafty-related projects for the big day.  I love me some wedding crafts!  This time it was favors and wedding programs...

The bride wanted something that was environmentally friendly, cost effective, and something that was from the heart.  Enter the seeded plantable paper favor...

Disclaimer: VERY MESSY PROJECT AHEAD!

What you'll need:
  • Lots and lots (and lots) of paper
  • Screen mesh
  • Cookie cutters
  • One large bowl
  • Blender
  • Water
  • A couple of towels
  • Wildflower seeds

First step....start ripping!

We made just about 100 favors, and used some scrap manilla-colored paper.  The amount of paper will obviously depend on the number of favors you're wanting to make.

Step 2: Fill your blender about half-way with the ripped paper.
Step 3: Fill your blender with water.

Step 4: Start blending!

You're going to want to continue until you have a pulpy-like consistency.  It will look something like this...

After that, mix in 1 TBSP of wildflower seeds.

Now here's the messy part!

Cover one side of a cookie cutter of your choosing with the screen netting and secure with a rubber band.  This will be the mold for your paper.

Then, cover your large bowl with the screen netting and secure with a rubber band as well.  This will catch any excess liquid from your mold.  Put the cookie cutter mold on top of the large bowl.

You're them going to pour your paper mixture into the cookie cutter mold.  Only fill it about 1/4-1/2 inches high.

It's a little hard to describe, but it should look something like this...

Step 5(ish): transfer your paper-filled mold onto a towel and press out excess liquid as much as possible.

Step 6: Turn the mold over and tap until the paper falls out.

One full batch from the blender made about 15 favors.

Let them dry, and then decorate any way you want to!

The bride added a little note, along with a little stamp and personalized ribbon to tie it all together...

They'll go great with her DIY fan programs, right?
