First, I must sincerely apologize for my lack of posts as of late...I've probably had the craziest 3-4 weeks of my entire life. I felt like the Energizer Bunny, but not in a cute, pink, fluffy way. Now that things have calmed down a tad, I can get back to creating!
One of the only projects I was able to finish lately was this...
I'm super proud of it. :) Basically, here's what I did...
I took three mens ties to make the front and back, so 6 total. Lined them up accordingly to make the front panel, pinned them, and sewed together. I hand-sewed because A. my sewing machine still hates me and B. I actually liked how it looked. I did the same thing for the back panel.
Then I cut the excess length off the ties until both front and back panels were a little longer than my desired purse length. I hemmed the top of the front/back panels and then sewed them together along every edge BUT the top one.
This, for the most part, was pretty easy. But the attaching to the purse handle itself posed some challenges. Let's just say not everything went according to plan the first time (or maybe second), but I like the end result even more than I imagined. Yay for mistakes!
I took the ends of the tie, hemmed the non-pointy side, and sewed it to the back/top of the purse...
After I fed them through the handle, I sewed them onto the front side of the purse. I made the middle one longer to create a closure of sorts and added velcro to secure it when the purse was closed...
Added a cute little button, and called it done!
Opened, it looks like this...
I think I might line it next time, but it doesn't really need it. I can fit a BUNCH of stuff in it too - keys, cell phone, wallet, eyeglass case, and some makeup.
I've got another tie project up my sleeve as we speak...;) That will have to wait until next week though, as this weekend I'm headed off to Foxwoods Casino in CT for some bachelorette party shenanigans with some of my favorite ladies! I can already hear the slot machines calling my name...

Featured today!! Thanks for linking up!
What a cleaver idea! And if you have a bunch of ties from a dad, grandpa or other man in your life that has passed on it would be a great rememberance of him.
